When nurse Tish Everett forced open the pesky but lovely locket she found at an estate sale, she had no idea she was answering the call of Criminy Stain, from the far off land of Sang. He’d cast a spell for her, but when she’s transported right to him, she’s not so sure she’s ready to be under the spell of another man. (It didn’t go so well last time with controlling, abusive, domineering Jeff.) If only Criminy wasn’t so deliciously rakish….

Half the inhabitants of Sang are Pinkies—human—and the other half are Bludmen, who in Tish’s world would be called vampires. But they don’t mess with any of the bat/coffin/no sunlight nonsense. They’re rather like you and me, just more fabulous, long living, and mostly indestructible. (They're also very good kissers.) But when the evil Mayor of Manchester (formerly Bludchester) redoubles his efforts to rid Sang of the Bludmen once and for all, stealing Tish’s locket in hopes of traveling back to her world himself for reinforcements, Criminy and Tish must battle ghosts, sea monsters, wayward submarines, a secret cabal, and thundering Bludmares to get the locket back and allow Tish to return home…but has she found love with Criminy? Could she stay in Sang forever?

My take:

First thought after finishing:

Huh. That is not all what I was expecting.

This series first caught my eye a few months ago, when I saw a review for the 4th book in the series. I have a special love for Urban Fantasy, so I immediately requested Wicked as They Come from my library and irritating enough, it took WEEKS. While I didn’t love it – it’s quite unique and enjoyable.

I love starting a new series, especially when the world is so different over anything I’ve ever read. Sadly, that is one aspect of this series that kept me from loving. This world is strange. Not necessarily in a bad way, but I kept giggling and had a hard time taking a lot of things seriously.

Not only this, I was not the biggest fan of Tish. She was selfish & indecisive. I was so torn about whether or not I understood her reasoning. One hand, did. She didn’t want to leave behind her world and the only person left in her life, and in the other, I felt like it was inevitable on what she would choose. Make sense? Criminy was a fun character and I loved getting to know more about him. I felt for the guy and their situation. Their romance was in a sense, insta-love, but it worked.

All in all – it was enjoyable. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the books in the series.

Scarred, solitary Derek Gaunt has separated from his Pack, and is truly a lone wolf. With no family he answers to no one; but is fiercely loyal to a chosen few. So, when several of those close to him are murdered, he’ll stop at nothing to hunt their killer through the magic-drenched streets of Atlanta.

Never one to be left on the sidelines, equally determined—some might say stubborn—Julie Lennart-Olsen soon joins in his pursuit; and what began as revenge turns into a race to save the city. Their search pits them against powers they never imagined and magic so old, it predates history. It may cost Derek his life, but there are things for which even he would risk everything

My Take:

First thought after finishing

This will not go over well with Kate.

I am not much of a novella/short story reader, but I will read anything that is in this world. The Kate Daniel’s series is one of my all time favorites, so it’s a no brainer.

This story, focuses on Derek and Julie. I loved getting more insight into Derek’s past, and how everything that has happened to him since meeting him in the first book has molded him into the person that he is now.

I never thought that there would be a hint at romance with these two, but I got that vibe. I could be wrong; there is another character in the series that is closer to Julie is age. But I like the idea of these two, and hope that this is the angle that it’s going.

We also learn more and Julie and there are a few things that we find out about her and things that she knows. Honestly, I am axious because something is telling me the direction of this is not somewhere I want it to go – and I hope I’m wrong.

All in all, if you follow the Kate Daniels series this one is a must read!

They don’t play for the same team. Or do they?

Jamie Canning has never been able to figure out how he lost his closest friend. Four years ago, his tattooed, wise-cracking, rule-breaking roommate cut him off without an explanation. So what if things got a little weird on the last night of hockey camp the summer they were eighteen? It was just a little drunken foolishness. Nobody died.

Ryan Wesley’s biggest regret is coaxing his very straight friend into a bet that pushed the boundaries of their relationship. Now, with their college teams set to face off at the national championship, he’ll finally get a chance to apologize. But all it takes is one look at his longtime crush, and the ache is stronger than ever.

Jamie has waited a long time for answers, but walks away with only more questions—can one night of sex ruin a friendship? If not, how about six more weeks of it? When Wesley turns up to coach alongside Jamie for one more hot summer at camp, Jamie has a few things to discover about his old friend...and a big one to learn about himself.

Awww!

If there is one book that has been pushed so heavily on me, HIM is IT. A lot of the bloggers I follow and/or are friends with have read it and loved it. So naturally, I went in with high expectations.

This book was so fun, hilarious, hot and heart warming all at the same time!

I loved both Jaime and Wes. I loved getting the dual POV so I was able to see how each other felt, thought, and what they were going through. After they lost touch, both were pretty torn up about it so when they run into each other during the Frozen Four championship, emotions run high.

There were times when I felt both were being selfish for different reasons, but it was a fleeting one. Both are trying to figure things out, so naturally things aren’t going to come too easy for either one of them. They not only work as a couple, but as friends too. You can see the deep-rooted love for each other and it made my cold heart melt.

I adored the writing as well. I thought the dual writing complimented each other well and I look forward to reading more from both!
