No matter how much the paranormal politics of Atlanta change, one thing always remains the same: if there’s trouble, Kate Daniels will be in the middle of it…
As the mate of the Beast Lord, Curran, former mercenary Kate Daniels has more responsibilities than it seems possible to juggle. Not only is she still struggling to keep her investigative business afloat, she must now deal with the affairs of the pack, including preparing her people for attack from Roland, a cruel ancient being with god-like powers. Since Kate’s connection to Roland has come out into the open, no one is safe—especially those closest to Kate.
As Roland’s long shadow looms ever nearer, Kate is called to attend the Conclave, a gathering of the leaders from the various supernatural factions in Atlanta. When one of the Masters of the Dead is found murdered there, apparently at the hands of a shapeshifter, Kate is given only twenty-four hours to hunt down the killer. And this time, if she fails, she’ll find herself embroiled in a war which could destroy everything she holds dear…
First of all, can I just say, ABOUT FUCKIN TIME CURRAN.
It’s always hard to review a book in a series, especially when it’s book #7. So bear with me, mm’kay?
Of all the Urban Fantasy series out there, Kate Daniels ranks at #1. I just love it. The snark, the world, the characters, Curran (fans self). Lately, well over the past year or so, it has taken a lot for me to continue on in a series, regardless of how much I love it. I know going into a Kate Daniels novel that I will be thoroughly entertained and love it.
I love how the married duo take chances and kill off loved and important characters. You never know who is going to come to harm, or die in each book, and the anticipation kills me every time. In the last installment, my heart just broke because of the loss and I was beyond anxious to see what would happen in Magic Breaks.
SO what happened?
There was also a LOT that happened. We get a really good look inside some of the secondary characters we have come to love, and love to hate. We get betrayal, a pregnancy, death. And answers to some of the questions that have been nagging me since book 1, i.e Roland. Of course you have the usual; politics, adventure, snark and laughs. If you want a good laugh, read this series. There were several times where I was doubled over laughing.
If you haven’t started this series, get on it. It’s amazing. I can’t wait to see where we are taken next.
