I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

I read Season’s first book, Beautiful Addictions, and loved the dark, intense tone of the book and just knew I had to read Held Against You. I am so glad I was approved because I just loved this book.

It’s no secret that I love books that challenge you and make you look between the lines. Nothing is ever black and white (to me) so when you are forced to look deeper than the surface and think, I eat it up! That is exactly what Season does in Held Against You.

Of all the romance troupes out there – the hunter vs the hunted could quite possibly be my new favorite. Kat is the hunted, on the run after being accused of committing View Spoiler » a crime. Steel, Lucas, Johnny (take your pick!) is a bad ass bounty hunter that never misses his mark.

Kat is hilarious and full of sarcasm, there were several times I was laughing at loud at the things she said and did. She isn’t some air head though – she is a very smart woman with a big heart. Although she is resigned to her fate – I love that she tried to make the best of her situation. She has wallowing thoughts from time to time, but nothing on the level most people would. Steel (I am using his alias for a reason, because that moment we find out his name? *SIGH*) is probably one of the most heartbreaking male characters I have read in a while. He is good at his job – and knows it – but he’s so lonely it broke my heart.

There were many things I loved in this book. The romance, obviously. It’s more than physical attraction; their chemistry was almost instant and I loved how the slowly learned to trust each other and go from there. The action – non stop. There are several players in the game and it’s intense and heart pounding throughout! There were many twists, a few surprising, some not but I loved it all the same. The character growth. Steel is lonely, and holds so much guilt for things in his past, things that really were not his fault. All he needed was to let Kat in for her to show him there was more to him than his job. That he was capable of love.

Ultimately, I loved the message behind the book. Redemption. Both of these characters have done things in their past they are not proud of; some would say wrong (definitely not legal by any means). But there is always a choice – whether it’s good or bad. The question is – can you live with your choices? These two finding each other and learning to forgive themselves was just beautiful.

My only small issue with how quick the book ended. I was hoping for an epilogue or an extra chapter. It was too neat and tidy, especially given the tone of the book throughout.

Overall –  I absolutely loved it. Held Against You is easily one of my favorites. Kat and Steel’s journey will stick with me for a long time. Highly recommend.

Favorite quote –

“Apart, we were lost and tumbling through life. We were only surviving, getting by. Together we’re a mess – a beautiful, promising mess.”
