I was counting down the months until the end of my deployment. My days were spent working on military vehicles, and I spent my nights playing video games that would distract me until I could leave Staff Sergeant Garrett Reid behind.

That was when I met him: Kai Bannon, a fellow gamer with a famous stream channel.

I never expected to become fixated on someone who'd initially been a rival. And I'd never expected someone who oozed charm to notice me—a guy known for his brutal honesty and scowl. I hadn't planned for our online friendship to turn into something that kept me up at night—hours of chatting evolving into filthy webcam sessions.

But it did. And now I can't stop thinking about him. In my mind, our real life meeting is perfect. We kiss, we fall into bed, and it's love at first sight.

Except, like most things in my life, it doesn't go as planned.

My Take:

First thought after finishing:

Sucker punched by the feeeeeels.

A few things to know about me, if you don’t already. 1) ANYTHING military related is hard for me to read and usually has me running for the hills; bypassing completely.. 2)  I will pretty much read anything my Megan Erickson, so naturally, I was all over Strong Signal. 3? I had never read anything by Santino Hassell before. To which, I will be reading more of for sure!

There was so much about Strong Signal that loved. I loved the unconventional way that these two meet. Becoming friends and slowly developing into more. I loved that both Garrett and Kai have serious insecurities that are real and how together, they are able to work on them. I love that not only are there fun, quirky parts but dark, gritty ones too. But what I love most, was Garrett and Kai themselves.

Garrett, the strong solider stationed in Afghanistan. Kai, former dancer turned internet gaming star. Sounds like an odd pairing, but they just WORK.

It always amazes me that with such short page numbers, Megan’s characters are always well-developed, fleshed out and amazing. (I am sure this is the same for Santino, but again, reading Strong Signal broke that proverbial cherry). I felt Garrett’s loneliness. I understood his longing. Kai, with his social anxiety and depression was hard to read. I ached for him and Kai in many ways. I felt like they were my close friends and I was watching their relationship develop. It really packs an emotional punch.

These two together, have some series HOT scenes. I am not often a blusher, or one to put down a book for a breather, but I had to. Twice. From the conversations via chat, to their Skype “conversations” and even when they are together in Kai’s apartment. *fans self*

Honestly, I wish I had the words to do this book justice. But sadly, I am just not that good. But you need this book in your life. Sexy, hilarious, gritty and emotional, Strong Signal will hands down be one of my favorites for years to come. Highly recommend.
